K-Town  June 29, 2008

This is our first official trip out to explore Germany! John took us to the city of Kaiserslautern, also known as K-Town. It is the biggest city around our area. The base community is known as the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC).

John wanted to revisit The Hannen Fass, a restaurant that he ate at when he was deployed to this area back in 1999. This was our first introduction to schnitzel. Schnitzel is the local cuisine that is pork loin that is hammered flat, breaded, fried and covered with many delicious sauces. Of course, I don't eat meat so the sauce is excellent for dipping my pommes frits (french fries). Here I had my first sip of German beer. Okay, still don't like beer. And I even tasted the schnitzel. Nope, still don't eat meat.

We walked all through the K-Town Walkplatz (shopping area) and enjoyed window shopping since stores are not open on Sunday. The boys favorite was stopping for ice cream!

We even stumbled upon Chuck's Diner. Take note of the pictures at the bottom. It made us really feel like we were back in the south! Chuck has even become my friend on myspace.
